i was so happy to hear korinna had made another zine after all these years! she hadn't written any for a couple years. this zine is actually quite different from her previous zines, as she seems to have mellowed down quite a bit over the years. it's mainly about her experiences with americorps, working in classrooms with high risk students, teaching them how to deal with drugs & violence and making a zine with them, but realising it's not going to be 'dangerous minds' or 'freedom writers' & she's not going to save everyone cos that just doesn't happen. she writes about the successes and the failures and the experiences somewhere in the grey area between the two. there is also a piece about how her being is / was a bitch is a defence mechanism. and she also writes a little about going to ireland & spain in the summer to volunteer at organic farms in the summer after she finished at americorps. the layout is stark computer printed text (both black on white and white on black) cut & pasted on back various backgrounds. it's simple but striking. weight: 1.5 fangs £1.00 TEMPORARILY SOLD OUT

amber and maranda are twins, and i think this is their second split zine they've done together. it's mostly about family & finding out they've got an older half-sister somewhere that their estranged father had before he met their mother. amber also writes about despising the winter and running away to montreal for an unexpected new love affair, and leaving her dear sister behind. maranda writes also about missing her sister & their hijinx, memories from their childhood, ghosts & dreams. weight: 1.5 fangs £2.00

description by amber (culture slut & fight boredom zines) because i felt weird describing my own zine.. This is the much-anticipated split zine from two of my favourite people: overseas pen pal Tukru and my sister Maranda. Although the original intention of the zine was to discuss loneliness and long-distance friendships, the stories strayed a little but are all the better for it. Maranda was inspired to write when people kept asking her how she managed to ride such a ridiculously colourful streamer-clad bicycle and dress up in strange outfits when she is often attacked by loneliness and anxiety. Her half is all about her bicycle Jolene and the things she has learned through riding her small town's streets and learning how to repair the bike. She includes tales of graffiti nights, the local lilac festival and the time she was hit by a car while riding her bike. She read excerpts from this during the zine reading at TZL a few weeks back and I thought it was quite moving. Tukru uses her half to write about visits from long-distance friends, her new Blythe doll, Harry Potter fangirldom, agreeing to take medication to deal with depression and a disastrous week with her brother. All cut and paste with typewritten and handwritten text, this issue is a totally epic SEVENTY pages. weight: 3 fangs £2.50

lb's truckface is one of my favourite zines ever! (sorry if that sounds a bit bias, but who cares) it's quite hard to put my finger on what i like about them the best. the writing which is both funny and serious and angry and honest all at the same time or the strange drawings scattered between the text, the fact they are always superthick and will take more than a lunch break to read through, or all of the above. this issue of truckface was compiled during the blizzard of 2007 and tells tales of working in shitty retail and being harassed by the boss and random weird customers who generally act strange and say creepy things, getting drunk, going to detroit, and much much more! weight: 3 fangs £2.00 TEMPORARILY SOLD OUT!
![]() lb - chicago, il - usa 112 pages - quarter size ![]()
this issue of truckface is a little different from previous issues and it's subtitled "adult times" for a reason. lb decides to stop workign shitty jobs peddling food and clothes and trains to be a teacher instead. #11 is filled with stories about the kids (mainly being difficult) at the "failing" inner city schools she worked as a teacher's aid, including gangs, having her sexuality & gender questioned by the kids, illiterate students, racism & classism (most the students are black and latino working class while half the teachers are white, and middle class..) and feeling uncomfortable being disguised as a proper adult. you need to sit down and read this zine properly, it will take you a while to get through, as it's very very text heavy and thick as fuck. more bang for your buck too! weight: 3.5 fangs £2.00 TEMPORARILY SOLD OUT!

"basically i'm not getting any and never have had any. this doesn't really bother me, but it bothers the rest of the world and that reaction DOES bother me." the name of this zine is quite self explainatory. the anonymous author writes about being queer and a virgin and how people react to it. she also draws a timeline of her sexuality and considers the possibility that maybe she's a-sexual. it's an excellent read, and she's working on second issue, with submissions. the layout is simple cut and paste, text pasted over patterned backgrounds. weight: 1 fang £0.50 TEMPORARILY SOLD OUT!

![]() carl & tukru - chatham, kent - uk 62 pages - quarter size ![]()
description by amber (culture slut & fight boredom zines) because i felt weird describing my own zine.. rock and roll riot grrrl love story super fantasy... this zine rules so hard. it was made by longtime zinester tukru (your pretty face is going straight to hell) and her lovely boyfriend carl, who's obviously got an eye for design as well. i'd categorize this as an art zine, what with the customized hand-coloured pages, crazy awesome cut and paste, little doodles of wings and such, but it is so much more than that. nearly sixty quarter-size pages. they use a vintage typewriter to write about their first meeting and falling in love. they play debbie harry and joey ramone. they make me wanna hold hands with my best friends and start a band and take over the world. weight: 3 fangs £2.50
![]() tukru - chatham, kent - uk 50 pages - quarter size ![]()
description by amber (culture slut & fight boredom zines) because i felt weird describing my own zine.. tukru seems to be finding her style a little more with this issue. partially handwritten (wonderfully!) and partially written on a vintage typewriter, she writes about crushy feelings and shyness and the difficult job hunt and sometimes missing her old life in finland, but accepting the fact that england is her new home. i read her cutsie stories about meeting her boyfriend with a big dumb grin on my face because it was just super sweet. weight: 2.5 fangs £2.00

description by amber (culture slut & fight boredom zines) because i felt weird describing my own zine.. in this issue, tukru writes about finding and furnishing a new apartment, along with all the worries that come with preparing to live with her boyfriend. on the one hand, it's something that's been planned for a long time and she's looking forward to it, but on the other hand, there are some commitment issues happening. moving in with a boy is scary! sometimes she just wants to run away to glasgow instead. my favourite part of this zine is the collection of photos from her gallery exhibition on the theme of meat. her piece is called chubby princess and includes some writings on body image issues and self-portraits in various states of dress, including squeezed into old outfits that no longer fit. as well, she writes lists of fun things to do on a day off, things that make her happy, and a plethora of recipes. weight: 2.5 fangs £2.00

description by amber (culture slut & fight boredom zines) because i felt weird describing my own zine.. this one is a pretty brave issue on the part of tukru. as she describes it in the intro, it's all about, "the past, love, "love", mistakes, being crap with people and other such things." a lot of her stories seem to revolve around drunken gigs and makeout sessions and she is brutally honest about things like childhood crushes, falling in love with girls, and cheating on her boyfriend. it's a very exciting, very personal read and will probably have you dwelling on your own past a little. plus, it includes a delicous recipe for lemmenleipa (finnish love bread). i made it for dessert tonight and it was sugary and delectable! put together in her classic cut and paste style with her own (totally legible!) handwriting, typewritten text and hand-coloured covers, this zine is a real treat to hold in your hands. weight: 2.5 fangs £2.00

description by amber (culture slut & fight boredom zines) because i felt weird describing my own zine.. i really, really love this issue of your pretty face. this issue was written as tukru's boyfriend was moving into her apartment, which means lots of worries about monies, but also ikea shopping sprees and being in love! i can relate most to the parts about living far away from all of her friends (perhaps because i'm one of her faraway friends!), and wishing she could just drop in for a cup of tea. you know, without having to book a flight first. zines and the internet have enabled us to meet people we never would have known otherwise, to connect with people we truly get along with. but it means that they are often hours, or even oceans away, leaving us feeling isolated. life is hard when you can't have your best friends by your side. as always, this zine has an amazing cut and paste layout with a combination of handwritten and typewritten text, and hand-coloured covers. truly a work of art! it's also got a tempting recipe for veggie-stuffed baked potatoes that i finally tried my hand at for dinner last week. yum yum! weight: 2.5 fangs £2.00

description by amber (culture slut & fight boredom zines) because i felt weird describing my own zine.. issue #7 is all about tukru's trip home to finland, visiting her family and friends after a few years away (back story: she attended uni in england and stayed after graduation because she fell in love with a boy named carl). she writes about the things she misses, like the beautiful winters, knitting shops with lotsa variety, rye bread and fresh milk and rare ice cream flavours like pear and cappuccino and candy cane. if you haven't read tukru's zines yet, you are totally missing out. each issue features great cut and paste art along with typewritten text, cutsie handwriting, her own drawings and photos, and a myriad of recipes to keep you busy in the kitchen. weight: 2.5 fangs £2.00 TEMPORARILY SOLD OUT!
